Lunar Moth (nature photography) by Cassie Kinney

The Lunar Moth was clinging to the door for days. After a heavy rain a couple of days ago, he took off. The family missed his or her presence. We were always so cautious when opening and closing the door.

Bruce Riley artworks

A friend found this artist and recommended him to me. With my recent interest in drawing life on a micro scale, I see quite a bit of these elements in Riley's work. The vibrant colors, translucency, and shapes in his paintings remind me of looking into a microscope.

Local artist Ernie Rose / Bread ties sculpture

I'm not sure if Ernie Rose continues to create sculptures out of bread ties, but I remember he would create elaborate sculptures out of bread ties he saved. Ernie Rose has had work presented at the Morehead, Kentucky Folk Art Center. In the newspaper I had seen a picture of a large dragon fly (or some flying creature) sculpture he made.
One sculpture has survived the years, and was given to me as a gift around the year 2007. The sculpture is of an ape-like bipedal man less than a foot tall. Through the years I have banged up the sculpture, and the small parts like the hands are mangled, but it has managed well.

The bread ties making up the sculpture act like the veins and capillaries of a being.

Cob homes (mud/all natural housing sculptures & art)

In case you're not familiar with cob homes, they are made of clay soil (mud), straw, and sand mixed together to form globs of "cob". This cob material is layered like a piece of pottery/ceramic sculpture. The appeal of cob homes are the organic, free-flowing, artistic designs, these homes are environmentally sustainable because they are made of free and all natural, readily provided materials. For more information on cob homes, go to some of my posts here:  COB BUILDING (Straw, clay, & Sand for building DREAM EARTH HOME), Constructing our own home: cob building, homesteading, & free material. To see my design for my own cob home, go to the link here: TINY Cob home layout.

Below are examples of the artistic work people have created using cob to build their homes.
